Żyrardów is a small city (41 000 population) only 20 minutes with train away from Warsaw. It was created in the 1st half of 19th century around a newly build linen plant of Philippe de Girard - a French engineer and inventor. Typical for the city are the red bricks buildings. From red bricks were build both the living houses of the workers as well the plants and store houses.
Here are some of the more traditional Żyrardów houses and buildings:
The interesting thing is that despite the proximity to Warsaw - may be 99% of the Warsovian even do not suspect what a treasure they have only some 20 minutes away. There were almost no tourists in the city - but then again - may be that's what makes it so charming.
Funny - the first old house we saw just next to the station was not red but it was still worth taking a shot:
A nicely decorated bench at the central plaza:
In the city there is also a very nice park:
Apart of the park the city has even its own marina with sailing boats and other water attractions!
Just few more glimpses from the city:
This is actually the city firehouse.
For sure we are coming back in the coming days (and years). :)
